rear seal 351
My friend has a 1986 150 4x4 with a 351. He has a very bad leak coming from the rear seal, on the front axle, differential thingy. How hard is it to replace the gasket on there and do we have to drop the drivetrain. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Any seal on the front pumpkin is a pain in the butt. If you are talking about the small diameter seal where the driveshaft hooks to, you have to take a center punch and mark the flange and the nut so you can put the nut back EXACTLY where it was. This nut sets the tension on the pinion bearings. If you are talking about the large gasket on the housing, you have to pull the axles out of both sides of the front of the truck. There are also seals around the axles on the pumpkin too.
