I'm thinking about buying a project vehicle, but can't decide on what to get. It will probably be low budget to begin with. Most likely a truck but a Mustang wouldn't be out of the question. A toss up between a 2 or 4 wheel drive. The problem of course is the low budget and that if I could I would take one of everything. Any suggestions or advice is appreciated. This will be my first true project up till now everything has been daily drivers that I just did the usual stuff to like mufflers and cold air intakes. It will also be a big learning experience for me.
My brother has an original 1966 Bronco with the 170 I-6, three-in-the-tree etc. He has too many vehicles as it is and has been looking ofr someone who will appreciate having it to let it go to. Don't get me wrong this is no ready-made vehicle. Its a project in the making. Just a suggestion. The early Bronco has tons of shtuff available for it and consequently would be a very good "first project" truck. At any rate. If I had the time and space (buddy's 77 Bronco project takes up the other half of my 2-car) thats what I'd be looking for. You could still deal with your Mustang stuff too since the most common swap in the early Bronco tends to be the Mustang 302.
Its in pretty good shape and the rear fenders are still uncut which is kinda nice for an original from the first production run. The floors need some TLC but the body panels are pretty nice. He started the work but has as little time as I do these days. It drives like a dream for being 3-in-the-tree and I know he recently replaced the clutch. I will ask him what he's looking to get out of it as soon as I see him. He may be joining us anyway.
Let me know what he is wanting for it also. I think I would be looking at doing something for street and off-road, probably more street, but then again if you don't have to worry about breaking it because it's your daily driver ya never know.
