68 Ranger Tailgate Trim

I'm on a roll this A.M. I need trim for my recently acquired tailgate. The pics that I have seen don't really answer several question. I think the finish panel that covers the center of the tailgate should be silver with black letters. I believe also that there were chrome moldings that surrounded the panel, and lined up with the taillight trim on the sides of the tailgate.

Maybe there were different options??? My truck is a '68 Ranger and has the rocker panel molding as well as the side fender and bed molding.

Is there a definitive answer??

ARWBA (Any Response Will Be Appreciated)

Gator,

You are correct. I have a 69 w rocker, fender and side panel chrome. The tailgate has the silver w/black letters and is framed in chrome.
I think the 68 and 69 were similar except for the 69 had a red stripe accross the grill in the center, a center ranger emblem in a red bezel and black painted headlight rings. Everything else is the same.
Hope this helps

flagator, check out the pics at web site and you will see the correct moldings for a 68 Ranger, which I also have.

Super Truck, William. Mine will be pearl white, but all the trim will be new/reconditioned and will hopefully look as good as yours.

I'm looking for a grille, as well as the tailgate trim. I have a possibility on ebay for the finish panel, but not for the molding around the panel. Dennis Carpenter has that repop, so I'll probably get it from them. They don't do the grille, so I'm appealing to all FTE hoping for a referral to a good one.

yeah, good luck on finding that grill. I bet Pee Wee Herman has a better chance at finding a job on another kid's show! I have the trim and center section of a '68 ranger, though I have not yet decided on weather I will need them or not. I may be doing a smoothed tailgate with a custom latch mechanism.

i have a grill, it is not made for a ranger...for it to be correct for your 68 it would need a center emblem attached. it is a lil tweeked in the bottom center, but in the right hands it is a gold mine.

Hey, Ranger240. Despite your boundless pessimism, I found a really good one less than 200 miles from me (via eBay) for 135. I guess PeeWee will be back at work soon???

Yeah, I too just found a gold mine of 67-72 parts, and since I am the only one in my area who seems to be fixing these trucks up for a decent showing, I guess I will be ebaying parts. $$$WOOOHOOO!!!$$$

I would think one could find a great hood locally, but someone may like the color of your particular hood. I wouldn't think someone would want to ship a hood when there are somany to be had from local salvages, unless they are in a rust prone area, and all salvaged hoods are rusted.

well, this one is 100% rust free and free and dents.....it is just ugly. i mean real ugly. needs to be taken down to metal and be painted. i will be placing some trim parts, headlight bezels a grill and some wirring harnesses on there. also have a complete 360 and a 3 speed manual to unload....who knows! maybe it will all find a good home.
