Replacement Frame Crossmembers?

i came across the same issue with my 78 F-250 sno-fighter, both of my rear crossmembers are rotted and falling off, im in the process of stripping the truck and sandblasting the frame, my idea for fixing these cross members is cutting 2 pieces of 4" square tubing a 1/2" shorter than the distance between the frame rails, welding 4"x8"x1/4" plate to both ends with 2" off either side to drill bolt holes in, and bolt these in place of the original crossmember, only thing is the plate on one end will have to be welded while the setup is bolted in........i hope i didnt loose ya......i think that when i get my frame clean, im going to box it in so its not like C channel anymore, that would be much stronger and give me a little more weight that i need......
