Well.....the plain and simple is this.............I believe.
My house was built in 1937 as a summer home, the second owners bought it in 1948. My wife and I bought it in 1980, and I know the previous owner died here. He was a friendly guy, but a pack rat to be sure.
Choose to believe or not.............I'm not forcing anyone.
From time to time too many things have happen in the years we've been here to just be the house settling, etc. With many owners of the house I grew up in saying the same thing.................well.........they believe as well.
Truth is in the past 45 years there have been five folks die in their homes on this street.
when my sister was about 1-2 years old, a family member died. my mother didnt go to the funeral, and was downstairs in the house they lived in doing laundry. EVERYONE was at the funeral. she heard the door upstairs open, footsteps across the kitchen, and called out numerous times "whos there?" but the footsteps kept coming, and started down the basement stairs. she just grabbed my sister and ran up the stairs, past whatever was making the heavy footsteps still coming down them.
about 4 years after my grandfather died, i went from my cousins house to my grandmas house one night ( the two houses are next door to eachother ) so i could grab a pop. no one was suppose to be there... through a crack in the curtains, in the light from the kitchen i saw a man sitting on the couch in the living room in the dark. he had dark hair, slim figure, and wearing brown pants and a red shirt- exactly the same clothes my grandfather was buried in. i never went in the house, and just ran back next door to my cousins. had i been braver at the time, i would have walked in.
About 8 years ago I tried conjuring a spirit. I got a spell book and followed the instructions. Could not get through it. Was about 3/4ths done when a salt shaker came flying off the mantle over the fireplace. I had to stop then and there.
The next night while lying in bed alone I felt something of great weight displacing pressure on the bed next to me. I turned on the light but there was nothing there.
I told my girlfriend about it - she did not believe me - no big deal, life goes on. That night she was alone in bed and I heard her scream - she felt it too.
I learned it's best to leave that which we do not understand alone. I've heard many interesting scientific explanations for these experiences we had. Old had syndrome is supposed to take many forms. Sometimes it's supposed to give you the feeling someone is sitting on your chest, or paralysis of some sort because of brain disconnection during sleep. I've even heard it said that you can get the feeling someone's on the bed with you.
Several problems with this. I remember just lying down and being wide awake when this occured in the bedroom. I experienced no paralysis and was able to reach for the light immediately. What are the chances my girlfriend and I experience the same old hag syndrome on consecutive nights? Also - when the salt shaker flew - it must have been one very good hallucination - I wasint the only one who had it, and I physically had to replace it.
Ghosts do exist - though i'm not sure I experienced a ghost - probably something else.
My dad and I have experienced ghosts in our house. I remember when we first moved in, he had just remarried, and this was my stepmoms old home. apparently one of her family members had died in a car accident, and another had died in bed. My dad was laying in bed one night and said he work up to a light hovering above him, he said he couldn't move and couldn't talk, and then it passed right through him. Our old dog used to sleep in that room with them, and we would turn him out during the day. He didn't come back for a week, and when he finally did, he didn't want to have much of anything to do with the house, he'd find a corner to lay in and hide.
I have at night, when locking up the dogs, every so often, when i cut off the lights, there will be this blue light sitting in the living room, when I go around the corner it takes off down the hall and that's that. I don't move in the dark around there anymore, I have to have some sort of light.
Spirits and ghosts are real, what they do differs, whether they are mean, curious, or just there, they are real
ringo, i respect your response and where you stand on the subject. i also agree that many stories are caused by an act of imagination, but sometimes...
3 out of 4 of my sister have seen a little girl in a white dress around our place that looked just like my great grandmothers twin (who of which we have a picture of in our living room) who died a long time ago when a rock hit her while she was in the schoolyard, the rock was from somenearby blasting that her own father was involved in. were they just seeing things and going off each others imagination, i dunno, but it makes you wonder.
Some of the tug boats i work on are haunted.
The Tug America While attempting to free anchor of grounded freighter, B.F.JONES, October 23, 1941, off east end of Belle Isle, Detroit River, caught in line from tug OREGON and flipped over, sinking within five seconds, in 19 feet of water. 6 lives lost. Sustained pilot house damage when hit by another tug's towline while freeing freighter FEDERAL ST. CLAIR in Detroit River in September 1977. Her upper works were destroyed by fire on November 1, 1979 while on standby status at Detroit. She was towed to Cleveland.
yes she is haunted and i seen weird things onboard her. like the hatch to the foxehole creaking open and its shut. Deck plates getting moved when there is no body on board.
Ah hell I was gonna post this a couple days ago but decided not to hijack the thread, since everyones posting their experiences here it goes

I havnt encountered anything too spectacular. My daily driver 1980 t-bird I purchased off the son of the original owner who I knew. He used to always tease me about driving around in my moms truck with the rock radio turned right up (I was only 13-14) and how he was gonna tell her. Before he passed away he was planning on restoring it and when I purchased it I decided to keep it looking fairly stock looking like he would have done, instead of removing the stock two post am/fm radio I hid a casette player where the ash tray mounted and never use the stock radio. I have been driving the car regularily for the last 6 months or so and on 4 occasions I have got in the car, started it up, reached for the seatbelt and had the radio come on full blast!. I have thought about ways to accidentaly bump the radio on and its next to impossible since you have to 'click' the **** on then turn the volume up.
After I graduated from HS I moved into a friends place which was built in the late 1800's and was a "speak easy" during the proibition times, it has a hidden stairway out the back and a few hiding places built into it. Any time of the day you could go into the basement and you would hear footsteps on the floor upstairs (not to be confused with a house settling) after a week of trying to sleep down there I traded bedrooms and moved upstairs. Also in the same house one night me and 5 friends were sitting around having a few drinks and playing cards in the kitchen around 4am the livingroom stereo and light popped on, we were all in the kitchen and the cat was sleeping that was probabally the wierdest thing to ever happen to me, we all sat there staring at each other for a minuite or two before someone got up and turned off the radio and switched off the light.
Lastly was at 'home' at my parents place where I lived for 7 years, when laying in my bedroom I would always see what looked like a woman in a white night gown pass down the hallway between the rooms and into the livingroom, I used to think it was my mother till a few times I got up to ask her about something and saw that she was asleep in bed, this has also happened to my brother.
The paranormal has been sensationalized by book authors and hollywood screenwriters for decades now. Using "ghosts" as the theme for a book or movie holds just what people need to satisfy their innermost curosity, and that strange "wanting to be scared out of their wits" thing. In my opinion, there IS another world that consists of a dimension that the eyes of man can not see. It is those that are "perceptive" to the "other" side, that will have the most experiences with the paranormal . ...
That "perception" demonstrated by the believers in the paranormal, is often explained away by non- believers in saying that, those that believe in ghosts are just seeing things because they want to. They say it is kind of a make believe world for those " believers" to live in , and they see these "things" because they have convinced themselves of the existence of "ghosts", therefore to those people they exist ...
I have been watching "Ghosthunters" on TLC every now and again , for a while now. This team of paranormal "experts" go out to wherever people make claims of the existence of a "ghost" or the inhabitance of a entity. This team's mission is to DISPROVE what the people are saying about their home or buildings "visitor". It is truly interesting the way that they logically and statistically PROVE the NON- existence of a ghost or entity. Then again, I have seen some of the shows to where THEY were NOT so convinced themselves, that "something " was not there in the so claimed spirited place....
Like the others that have posted already, my wife and I both, can testify to "things" that has happened to us during our 50 + years of living, that were paranormal events. Unexplainable in a logistical sense ? Yes. Did we really KNOW that these things happened to us ? Yes. Do we do things like Ouija Boards and seances to satisfy, or prove, our curosity of the existence or not, of spirits ? Nooo way, we just want to leave them alone, right where they are . all jmo
My Dad did repair work for an old couple for years. After he retired the lady of the house asked me to do some work for her. I went to the house and she let me in and she asks me to wait a moment while she finished her phone call and she would explain what she need done. She left me at the front door and went to another part of the house. A few minutes passed and then I heard a mans voice calling. He said Frankie is that you? [Franks my Dads name.] I said no it’s his son. He said I thought Frankie was coming. I said no, he’s taking it easy these days. He says come in here. I walk to the room where the voice is coming from. NO ONES THERE! He couldn’t have left the room because there was only one door and it was visible from where I was standing. The only thing making any noise at all in the room was an old TV. Freaked me a little. The lady came back from her call and I said I think your husband was talking to me but I must have missed him. She said He had just died the month before it couldn’t have been him. I said well it was someone who thought I was my Dad. She said she was the only one in the house. I said you sure? Someone was just talking to me. She looked at me like I had lost my mind and said couldn’t have been unless I was talking to myself because we were the only ones in the house. I did the work for her looking over my shoulder the whole time.
I told this story to everyone. I was convinced I had a real encounter with a ghost. Then about a year later I was watching an old movie on TNT or something, and I heard the same exact same lines in the move. I had to laugh. Timing is everything!

im glad that you brought that up, i have seen the show too and i like the way that they try to disprove instead of prove. seems like a more logical way to go about things
Not long ago while watching one of the Ghost Hunters shows, there was a good one . They played a video of the 3 of them walking thru a attic , ghost hunting, with one them jokingly calling out asking for the "spirits" to speak to them. All of a sudden the guy at the very back of the line just fell backwards onto the floor. Trying to find out what happened and to disprove any "ghost action", they played the scene a couple of times in super slow motion. I very clearly watched this guy walking along, nothing close to him, all of sudden his big front hung camera bag pushed up hard in to his face, causing him to fall backwards to the floor like a wrecking ball hit him. As he was re-hashing this film to his co workers, you could see he was still shaken up about it.
the sci-fi channle has a ghost hunters show also, and in the attic of a light-house they had a camera in the room, NO people in it... a chair in the other end of the room moves on its own a little ways across the floor. theyve also caught voices on tape, one guys house ( his name was Adam ) where his grandparents use to live... adam was out of the house when a voice caught on tape was heard to say " i miss adam "

i remember that one, i would have to change my pants if that happened to me!
I think believing is an understatement. I've been surrounded by supernatural experiences since early childhood. It is something that I've "inherited" from my mother's side of the family. Although it is something that is not talked about often. It's kind of amazing that somehow I seem to attract friends who also have this, "ability." It's nice to know you aren't the only one out there who have these types of experinces.
I had only felt/heard things and saw things in dreams till I was 22. I was out on a double date. We had gone to The Golden Lamb Inn in Lebanon, Ohio, for dinner. It is over 200 years old and has lots of history. After the meal, I went to the men's room, which is located in the basement. As I was washing my hands, I looked up in the mirror to see another man standing close to me. He had neatly groomed hair, very pale skin, and a handlebar moustache in a formal suit. Startled, I instantly turned and looked to my left. No one! I looked back at the mirror, just me again. Needless to say, I got outta there quick! I told several of my friends about the experience. One of them called a couple days later. She asked me to describe the apperition to her. Then she read to me a paragraph from one of the Haunted Ohio books. The description she read to me was chilling! Seems this apperition has been seen in several locations by several hotel employees and guests. One of the locations being the area where the men's room is now located!
The house my uncle owns, which we are restoring has quite a history. It was built in 1890. The original owner's mother died in the home from consumption. Not a pretty way to go. She remains in the home to this day. Not a bad presence, but she makes sure we are aware she is there. The house became a funeral parlor in '41. There are other entities in the home, I'm not sure if they are from this time period or not. They tend to be darker and I try to stay away from them. I have enough stories from there to fill several pages.
I've seen, felt, and heard more then I'd care to remember. I try to not fear it, yet embrace it. I now have the same handlebar moustache on my face that I saw on my first experince with an apperition. It's been kinda fun in some ways. I probably have enough experiences to write a book. Anyway, sorry for rambling!
