Air Pump seized
Just like the title says, my air pump is seized up. My truck is currently at school and need it for when i make the 200 mile trip back home. I was thinking to save money, can i just pull the belt off the air pump so i don't have to deal with the terrible noise it makes since it's seized? The belt for the air pump is hooked up to the alternator i believe, so i figure if i just pull the belt off I'll be set for a temporary solution. On what may be a related note, my egr valve had been sticking open, and i had been getting crappy mileage on the trip back here to school. Could the bad air pump cause these probs?

You should be able to buy a shorter belt to bypass the air pump. The air pump is only for emissions and won't affect the engine if it's bypassed. The EGR is probaly dirty and needs cleaning.

Thanks for the quick reply boss... If i remember correctly, the air pump has a seperate belt, so i can just take it off and it won't affect the alternator or the alternator belt. Thanks again for confirming my idea.
