I have a 86' 351W HO that I will be rebuilding within the next month. Does anyone know the horsepower and torque that this motor produces stock, as well as the compresion ratio? The only mods I will be doing besides the rebuild is a mild cam, heads will be ported and polished, headers, and a good flowing exhuast. It will be running a holley 4bbl. With that what could expect as far as horsepower and torque gains? Any help and opinions is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I would take a guess and said that compression ratio is right around 9:1. As for power, I would estimate around 300HP and 350 lb-ft of torque. Are you running an aftermarket intake??? This will make a reasonable difference also.
I don't think you will break the 300 hp mark. Somebody had posted a list of engines with ratings and years (stock). Do a search. What cam will you be running? What size is your carburetor (cfm)?
LOL...this is about as vague as it can get...the otly thing that would be MORE vague would be to say you have an engine...what hp does it have?....We need specifics....like cam sizes, carb sizes, port sizes and chamber volumes, valve sizes, exhaust sizes....To help a bit, I am currently running a 351w with a Holley 750 vac secondary, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, Edelbrock Performer RPM cam and lifter set, and my heads are stock 302 heads that have been shaved down .030 and have 1.94/1.60 valves installed. I have also gasket matched them and removed the thermactor bumps in them. (There's a little more done to them than just that, but they flow almost as good as a set of world products heads do) I am running a set of headman headers with 2 1/2 inch exhaust through flowmaster mufflers. I recently took the setup to the dyno and ran a little over 360hp. It's a sound setup, but with the Preformer RPM cam, yopu'll have to machine the heads for screw in studs so your valve train is adjustable. Sorry about the ribbing in the beginning...It's just hard to calculate how much hp you have if we dont have at least MOST of the variables. Peace
