I have a 1989 F350 5.8L 351 EFI, The engine wants to load up and miss. It does not do this all the time. I retrived the codes from the engine and got a 23, 32 code. something about the TPS sensor and EGR. The engine has 177,000 miles on it. Any help would be appreciated. IF it was not computer controlled and Fuel injected I could figure it out much easier.
when was your last tune up. plugs wires cap and rotor replacement. set timing and replace fuel filter. you o2 sensor might also need replaceing. if its bad it will cause the motor to run rich
I have replaced the fuel filter, I am going to replace the plugs this weekend. I will also make sure the fuel return line is clear. I am going to get a timing light so I can set the timing. Last night the truck would not hardly run it was dumping gas so badly. if it had a carburator I would bet the float was stuck, that is how it was acting.
your fuel pressure regulator is bad. dont start the motor anymore. check the oil if it smells like gas that is for sure your problem. but dont start it until you do an oil change. when gas gets down into the crank case it will eat at the bearings if you try and start it. very very bad.
i have a 94 f150 302efi i replaced my fuel regulator no change it still dumps fuel and the timing jumps around if i rev up the motor and let it go back to a idle it dies but if i play with the throttle it will idle low and rough and still smell fuel also i have one bad tank my fuel pressure is between 30-32psi

Reason: forgot a sentence
Check for a vac leak. The older Fords use the "coffee stirrer straw" vac lines and on a vehicle that old they'll be busted up. Also the "coffee can" vac reserviour behind the starting battery will be corroded. Can't move the EGR valve without vac.
The TPS is a common failure item on an old vehicle. Replace.
[wdb1971] If the timing is jumping around, check for slack in your timing chain.

Thanks for reminding me about fuel in the gas, I had at least a quart of fuel in my oil. Good tip on the pressure regulator, I removed the vacuum line to it and fuel ran out. I replaced the fuel regulator(PAIN TO GET TO) and also the TPS. I will let you know how it runs later. I have to go out with the wife tonight.
Thanks
Greg
I set the timing and ran the truck, works fine. ran the computer codes and the only one it had was about the EGR valve. I will look into that later, just glad it runs good again.
Thanks
