Transplant rejection

You ever have one of those huge - oh crap moments? You've spent a lot of time looking for the perfect part and then finally when you get it you realized that you screwed up big time?

Finally got to taking a look at the C30 IFS I bought, and re-measuring. I knew that the IFS was set up to go on a 29.5" frame. And I thought that was great because it should pretty much bolt on with a little massaging. Until I realized that I was thinking of the wrong frame. My Jeep frame is 28" wide, the F350 is 34" wide. That little mistake is going to cost me So now it's time to figure out if I can salvage any of this. I'm tempted to build an hourglass section into the front of the frame, like the one that the donor vehicle has.

But that major project will have to wait a bit until I get the other accumulating projects done.

Lesson learned - when you have multiple project vehicles, don't do anything from memory

Chuck,

Lesson learned several times. My memory is so bad I've bought things for my truck...only to discover later that I already had it...and I'm only working on one project. Maybe it's years of breathing gas fumes or just plain old age, but I feel your pain.

3x5 Cards - all the important stuff on them. They fit in shirt or hip pocket, travel well. Always available next to Puter, at parts store or "Treasure Yard".

Very good Memory Expansion Device

Dick,

Good idea but how do I remember to take them with me?

The thing that really drives me nuts is that it has been a couple of months in the making, a spur of the moment screw up isn't so bad, but I can't believe this one.

In any event I think that I'm either going to graft in a section of the chevy frame or have my buddy bend be up a tubular front frame, that will take care of the suspension and steering issues. Inner fenders are going to need some work when the time comes though

Between the bunch of us we've got tube benders, Bridgeports, Lathes, and more welders than you can shake a stick at. It's good to have toys

Just like you to get technical on me. I usually remember the cards by the third trip back to the house to get things that I forgot, tools, money, list,.
Your Old, ya know what I mean.

OldJeep,
Anyone can do it right the first time.. It takes a true craftsman to overcome the obstacles that are self created.
I know exactly how ya feel, the pain of the screw up will subside in time, I know this from recent experience.
Good Luck
Mike

Mike,

Good advice but...trouble is, some of us have a lot less time left for the screw up to subside...
