Hello, I have a 1994 f150 straight 6. I just bought the truck recenetly and have noticed that I might have a coolant leak. The guy before me had the coolant drained and flushed he also had new upper and lower radiator hoses put on along with a thermostat. I notcied just today after looking at the engine down near where the fan shroud meets up with the radiaotr that it was a little moist there. But there is actually a lip that looks like it might be a skid plate right below the fan shroud and I saw coolant laying up in there. It wasn't vey much but enought to concern me. I dried it all out really well and drove it and I didn't see anything . I checked all the hoses and they all felt dry. I'm going to check it when I get home tonight and see if more fluid has dripped down. Do you think that it could have been residual or could the radiator or something else have a leak in it? Would it be ok to continue driving it and maybe adding coolant? Or do you guys feel that the leak will get worse as time goes on? Thanks for any replys.
Right after driving the truck and shutting the motor off is agood time to check for leaks since the heat stove effect causes system pressure to rise. Look at all hoses connections, etc. for leaks. Might be someting as simple as tightening a clamp. Shouldn't be losing coolant as you describe unless it is leaking someplace.
Chances are at the bottom of the radiator where the clamps come together itcould be the source .I too just recently had the problems you describe.I had to change the radiator. It is a simple job you can do, just make sure you dispose of the old coolant properly,
