I was just yanking your chain. I see in other posts you have a 4" turbo back exhaust. That should help towing something.

But no, I didn't buy from the dealer. I bought it from a local parts house that carries MotorCraft stuff. I get my filters for less than Walmart.

Not to flame you, but I would not want the aftermarket filter if your driving in this stuff... K&N with OuterWears is a better conbination when you run in sandy silt conditions.....or go back to the stock filter.

Well, goes to show what he knows

I've been told some FANTASTIC stories by some "experts" that knew less than me

I've had the Zoodad on two trucks for at least 3 years... and no issues...

again, not sure if it REALLY helps, but that's another thread

I wonder if you cut the zoodad mod hole below the air intake if that would work. You get air in, but gravity wins on the heavier rain and bug parts.

JD would know. They grow bugs big here in Texas.

Now we are going to have to get Daryl involved...... ...E=MC SQ

Supposin yall cuts ya a great biggin hole....ummm...like 12 inchers
Puts one of them thar non restrictive filters on yer pickem-up...

You still have a tiny intake tube from the filter to the inter-cooler and a restrictive inter-cooler with yet another small tube to the turbo.

Or....is this irrelevant at 300 mph?

ZOO Dad + Hp Filter = return effective for HP?

I know for a $400 programmer my bang for the buck was good.

Remember I am just having some fun....

Other than zoodad, I am trying to figure how to get more air flow to the stock filter without bugs, birds, rain, snow, rocks, etc. There's got to be a way without going out and buying one of the off shelf things.

If you own a welder and a torch, plenty of room behind the grill and front bumper to install a forced cold air system. Forcing the cold air (ram) is more effective.

Until someone does some flow dynamics on an actual vehicle, we won't know...
I mean the beast could be building up such a huge pressure wave that the air is flowing AWAY from the intake area...
(I doubt it, but it's possibile... ) afte all, it's NOT exactly known for it's aerodynamic properties - about like a shoebox

Everyone I know runs a K&N and we all go to the same desert every summer...no one has had a problem. Yet...that is.

What is outerwears? I will look into it if it will benefit!

Outerwears. Basically a foam pre-filter cover. Good idea if you're traveling in dusty situations. I'll even put one prior to my Donaldson filter if it's that dusty.

As for Zoodad mod. I think I felt the difference when I did mine. Simple to do with a Dremel tool and steady hand.

No problems with rain/snow in the filter even here in Washington, but I didn't run a tube from the filter box to the core support. That I think would be a design for trouble. Forced ram air yes, but would might force rain in.

Phone number only for OuterWears.....800-967-3450

Give them a call for your application. To set things straight your not visually going to see a problem up front with dirt. Check inside your intake tube and you will notice a light coating of dirt or your engine builder will show you the damage with a long term use.

Show me the money$$$...For the intial cost over the factory Donaldson and the low performance per dollar, I my opinion it is not worth changing a filter that has an already good design. As the creature of habit we are, we love to change things. Now in a racing application, any improvement is well justified. You would be surprised what man will do for an extra 1/2 HP.

My thoughts...If I wanted to improve intake volume I would start at the turbo and work towards the filter, changing the inter-cooler. Then a K&N filter would find itself in the system. I would much question the use of an oil finding that it may coat the inter-cooler which would defeat the application and purpose.

This is just my opinion...I am sticking with stock.

Read up on Donaldson. They developed this filter for the military in the first Gulf War.

I would do a oil analysis after running around in that environment and see if you have higher than normal readings of silicone.

I like SBV have done some research on the aftermarket filter thing. I had one for my 03 and 04 and the thing I found consistently was that the aftermarket just didn't make that much difference one way or the other. I've got exhaust, programmer, etc., and to me the oiled filter just didn't filter as well. Perhaps a tweak better mileage on the interstate over a long period of time, but negligable. I did notice that the filtration was NOT as good, and the filter oil is an extreme sore spot for ford engineering because of the MAF sensor. Over oil and you freak out the sensor. Underoil and you take a chance on your engine protection. Donaldson has been making John Deere filters since I can remember. There was/is NO better filter on the market. Seems like cheap insurance to me to protect a very expensive investment. As for the zoodad mod??? I have it also--since moving from Arkansas down to Texas. No extra bugs, birds, or unwanted critters and I GARONTEE Texas and Arkansas have enough for anywhere else in these United States. As for water ingestion into the filter??? Can't tell any has ever been there and besides, by the time it gets to the motor it's well filtered anyways and the moisture will only HELP your EGT's and maybe even improve your performance (if you're so inclined on wet roads).
