Anybody run Nitto Terra Grapplers on their Expedition?
I have an 02 and was looking to put these on some 18x9's. They make a 285/60 R18 that has a great profile with a 31.38" OD. I do quite a bit of highway travel and these have a UTQG Treadwear 500 rating. I had BFG TA/KO's on my 02 F150 and loved them. I think they had a rating of 420 and they were great, especially will high mileage. I'm curious how these Nitto's will do with high mileage.
You might want to do a search on the Nitto tire here at FTE. Our old forum moderator had a set of these and he couldn't get them off his truck fast enough. He said they were terribly noisy and had some other things to say too.
Thanks dakota_viking. I tried a search first and kept getting a site is too busy notification so search is shut off. Anyway, I read that thread and it's pretty interesting. Toward the end someone posted and asked what BigMatt was camparing them to as being an extremely loud A/T tire. I wish he would have responded. Like I said, I've had TA/KO's on and I wouldn't think them to be an extremely loud tire, "like helicopters around the vehicle", but they're obviously not as quiet as a highway tire.
I got the search to work just now and read some others. Found one thread where the guy didn't think they were too loud for an A/T.
I purchased Nitto Terra Grapplers P265/70R17 for my 99 Exp 5.4L 4x4 in December 2004. I have since put 5000 miles on them (trip to California) and love them. I had Wranglers on there before, and these Nitto's are just as quiet if not quieter. I put them on mostly because of look, but am very happy with the ride. I was expecting a rougher ride, but not feeling it. It may be b/c Nitto only makes a 265 in P, not LT.
If you are going for an agressive tire, but expect to put high freeway mileage on it, then this tire will work for you. I think the 285 is an LT, so maybe it is stiffer. If aggressive wasn't a must, I 'm sure there are plenty of highway tires that will give a great ride and last.
Good Luck
Thanks, nstyle. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with them. Once I get 'em on I'll post some pics. They've got to order them in with the rims. Thanks again.
Level 8, Do you have aftermarket wheels on? What size are you running? Now I'm wondering if I can get a 295/70 R17 (33.19" OD) on a 17x8.5 with out lifting it or doing any or too much trimming. If that won't work I'll probably end up with and 18x9 with the 285/60/18 (31.38" OD). Anybody know?
I have 265/75/16 Nittos on mine and they are no louder than the Goodyear Wrangler RTS'. I have no idea why MattXXL thought they were loud because actually they very quiet compared to the BFG AT's. You won't be sorry you bought them, trust me. I have had a ton of ice and a little snow this winter and I haven't had a problem getting through anything. A truly excellent tire and they are very reasonable.
