Sometimes when the truck in idling in the driveway Ill have heat, sometimes not. The last week Ive had no heat at all, idling or driving down the road. thermostat seems good, blower motor is working, can anyone tell me the next sequence of things I should check or replace, like should I have the radiator system flushed first and if that doesnt work then look at heater core replacement? Thanks.

How do you know the T-stat is good? Did this just start happening or did you replace fluid in the Rad? Sometimes you can get an air pocket in the system and then it has to be burped. By the way...I just had to replace my rad and T-stat because the T-stat went bad. Had to burp the system to get rid of an air pocket.
CJE07 has the right start. Make sure your T-Stat is good. Replace it if you have to. Not hard to do and cheap. Then make sure you have enough coolant. If those check out, then your original thoughts are they way to go....Flush first...then check out replacing the heater core. That too is cheap and easy to replace. Refill coolant, and let her warm up. If still nothing....then look into replacing the water pump.
Iv'e had that problem before. Was the trucks way of letting me know
my coolant level was low. Going up a hill I would get hot air out the
heater and then would blow cold after leveling out.

Hold the Bronco against your chest and pat it softly on the back. That should take care of the problem.
Thought I'd share what happened to me on a different ford vehicle I own, I also had no heat. I had replaced the thermostat, radiator, heater core, and still had no heat. Took it to a local garage and they were baffled for like 3 days, they tried everything to get it to blow heat. It turned out the problem was a restriction in the block probably due to "stop leak" being run in the radiator at one time. It had been flushed previousely to going into the shop, they just re-did it with as much pressure as they could. Just an idea. hope you get it figured out.
If rad is full and it is not air locked, are heater hoses hot to touch??What year?78-79 have water control valves, later have temp blend door, full heat lets air blow only through heater core and if door does not shut completely air will not be as hot as you want. Cable adjustment, or vac motor unhooked or bad or something in door area (pencil etc.) poss problem- just a suggestion. Bad water pump impellor (rusted away- loose- worn another sug. Good luck!!! ( agree with VZ29N sounds like low coolant) level to me
Thanks for all the info, had to let my hands warm up so I could type :] both heater hoses going into unit on firewall are hot, not one hot and one warm, thought maybe I had a restriction somewhere. I checked coolant level, was a little low. I did notice that my duct work was knocked lose, when I opened and removed my glovebox I had air blowing on me, I reconnected what was lose but still was blowing cool air. My next step is to replace thermostat, if problem still, flush, if still no heat, replace heater core. When I checked heater hoses I found no collaspse in hose and no restriction in the hoses themselves so I ruled that out. By the way I thought I would be smart and buy a little heat fan from JWC that you plug into your cig lighter, well it works fine just blows cold air along with my heating system guess when it 3 degrees out and in the cab you get what you paid for.
