What is the Explorer Package?

Just purchased an 85 F150 2WD with a 302 V8 2BBL from the original owner with only 62,000 miles. Needless to say it's in great shape. My question is what exactly is the Explorer package?

What is the Explorer Package?

It's a TRIM level.

Carpet,headliner,Upolstery,Hood Emblem,Striping,etc.

It would be explained in it's entirety in a Brochure of that year.

If Explorer is the trim level, what does Lariat mean?

It's a higher Trim Model.

What is the Explorer Package?

The Full Size ranger package ended in 82. I have a question to ask, I have an 84 F150 XLT and it has Air Tilt and Cruise, my buddy has an 85 F150 XL and his has cruise, tilt, pw, and pdl. I also have an 86 f150 XL and it doesn't have anything. Can anyone explain?

What is the Explorer Package?

This thread got me thinking about one of my old trucks. It was an '85 F-150 and had A/C and a C-6. No other options. I can't remember it having an XL, XLT, Lariat emblem on it. Under the F-150 on the front fenders it said 4x2. Was "4x2" a trim level too?

Thanks y'all

Trim is *TRIM* its Not,Options.
Carpet,Upolstery, etc.

You could have a *Custom* fully optioned out.
Although the salesman would direct you to the Lariat.

The Lariat is Like the Lincoln of Ford Trucks though.

Oh no, I guess the Navigator took ove that spot.

You know what I meant, right?

A/C is an Option,C6 is an option,
XLT has chrome trim around it with XLT badges.

4x2 just means two-wheel drive

I think you guys need some brochures to look at!

What is the Explorer Package?

Why would you say that?
I respond to everything I have at least a little knowledge on.
It doesn't matter WHO it is.

If you have the "4x2" or "4x4" badge, you have "standard" trim- the base model. A/C was optional on all models but the highest XLT package. Cruise/tilt were standard on the higher XL and higher XLT levels, while power windows/locks were standard in the higher XLT. This is straight from the 1986 brochure; I'm sure 1985 is very similar.

That is true for the older trucks (79 at least), but in the mid-80's, options were included in these trim levels, such as A/C, cruise, etc. Some weren't available in standard trim.

My 1985 F150 Explorer XLT Lariat has carpet, headliner, some trim on the doors, chrome grill and bumpers. It is 2WD with a 302 V8 2BBL and auto trans. There is no A/C, no power door locks, no power windows, no extra anything. This means XLT, Lariat, etc., is just trim, no options.

What is the Explorer Package?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-Jul-02 AT 08:23 PM (EST)]I looked for my orginal brochere on the 84 Ford F150 explorer and could not find it. But I did find the dealer's invoice. I paid $451.00 Canadian in 1983 for my 84 Explorer package. I have a padded headliner, cloth seats rubber floor mats nothing special. I think the Explorer package in 84 was just the special paint scheme on the side.
opps I forgot about the chrome trim around the wheel wells.

That's why I said thanks. You take the time to answer question after question... You never take the stance of "Eh, somebody else will eventually reply to this."

And honestly, I wasn't expecting an answer so quickly...
