I just picked up my (2004 SCREW F-150, 5.4, 3.73, 17" Continental tires) with 25000 miles from the dealer service department. This was the third time in 9 months it has been in for the vibration and steering wheel nibble problem and second time for vibration while brakeing. I already had the rotors turned and the tires replaced by Continental on previous trips to the shop. This time, they replaced the two front rotors (Ford has a new type out now due to problems with the originals), 1 tire was replaced, they checked out the rack and pinion (which is ok) and road force balanced the tires. They had it in the shop for 3 full days, but I am happy to report that currently driving at all speeds, as well as braking, are smooth as silk. I remember how much I love this vehicle, when it is not vibrating. In any event, I am convinced that my problem is totally tire/rotor related, but I am equally convinced that these trucks are particularly sensitive to slight imbalances. Maybe this is the price you pay for a truck that drives more like a car. If/when it happens again, I am switching to Michelins, but for now I hope this helps others with the same problem.
After a year of dealing with this issue, I took my awarded refund from the DSB (a painful but fair process) and bought an 05 F250. This truck rides much better than the F150. No vibes, no nibble, no wobble, no rebounce. In fact I was able to actually put the tires on that I've always purchased and guess what? It is still smooth!
I'm sure there are only a few bad F150's, but at least I don't have to deal with it any more. Thanks for doing the right thing for me Ford! Love the F250! Of course I had to pay quite a bit more....
Glad to hear your truck is fixed. But the problem is not just tires and rotors. I have my 3 rd set of tires and still have the viberation and steering wheel shake. The reason I say its not the tires or rotors is because in the 3 months I have had the truck my has viberated and wheel shaked about 5 times while at a DEAD STOP. I just think Ford is looking in the wrong places to fix these problems. Anyway my DSB hearing is Feb 10, Ill post and let everyone know how it goes.
