Since Ford will not sell the F-250 that I want in the color
I want (Ford's "Blazing Yellow"), I am forced to buy it in some
other color, and then consider whether I should have it
repainted. It irks me that they discontinued it as a standard
option. Seems ideal for a work truck.
If I have it repainted, I'd want the quality of the job
to be comparable to the factory paint job, and thus I'm
not gonna just take it to some place that'll do it for $200.
The dealership's body shop can, of course, paint it,
and they'll have the "Blazing Yellow". But I have heard
a wild range of prices casually thrown around ($2,000 to
$7,200).
Before I start asking the dealership or anywhere else for
quotes, I'd like to go into this knowing what's reasonable.
Does anyone out there have any experience in doing this,
and can you tell me what kind of prices I might expect?
It all depends on how far you want to go with the repaint. I have painted many cars over the years myself and I do know this. You will want to paint under the hood, the firewall, under the door panels, inside the bed, the back of the cab, etc and that is where the cost adds up. Just the outside will not cost too much but if you want a complete color change and want it done right it is NOT cheap. I haven't priced repaints lately but I would say $2000 is way cheap and would expect more in the $3000-$5000 range from a GOOD shop (ask to see some of their work). Then you will also have the question of the interior matching or complimenting the new paint color and maybe having to (or wanting to) change that also. Just something else to think about but if you want to spend the money it should be a looker.
