ohh no?!?!

I was driving home today and my "Check Gauge" light comes on so i look and find out that oil pressure is at ZERO and its tapping pretty bad. Its like a half a quart low on oil but i dont think its gonna cause it to tap this bad. After i put some more oil in it, its fine. gauge works and all. i cant understand why its doing this even if its only a half quart low.

Maybe the wrong dipstick?

If it's a Ford truck, you'll be better off in that specific forum. If it's not then maybe a breif description will help.

Not sure about that particular engine, but I know Dodge had some pretty bad sludge issues with their Dakota/Durango engines a few years ago, many of which resulted in complete failure. The oil pickup tube screen would get clogged, the oil pump wouldn't pump enough oil, and the engine would starve for lubrication. Game pretty much over at that point.

The warning signs are very similar to what you are experiencing.

Now I suppose it could be a oil pressure sending unit problem, but if it were my truck, I wouldn't take any chances. I'd drop the pan and take a look.
