hey bill... i got the same thing going on too... like you, tried the child proof thing.. dont make a difference... kinda irritating to those in the back seat.. is this how it works?? .. they are locked in till the driver releases em??
This is normal operation and I wish it wasn't. The child locks actually make it so the back doors cannot be opened from the inside at all, locked OR unlocked. Meaning kids can't open the doors themselves, they have to be opened from the outside.
If anyone knows a way to change this setting, I am all ears!!
Turn off the autolock feature that locks the doors when you put it into Gear. They just won't automatically unlock when you pull the handle like the front ones. If you turn off the autolock the the back doors don't lock when you drive and you can still open them from the inside.
Just checked my screw. If you pull up on the ****, the door will open. I would not undo the auto lock. That is a good feature to have. With the child safety switch in the down position, I just pulled up on the **** and it opened.
Hey guys there is a TSB#03204 regarding this.I think thats the number to the TSB. IF not u can go to recalls/tsbs on this site and look it up,hope this helps

About a month after I got my '04 Lariat SCREW I was actually riding in the back while my wife and her friend were in the front. when we stopped I instinctively pulled the handle to open the door and it did not open because it was locked. After she unlocked it so I could get out, the door still would not open because the latch mechanism was all jammed up. I fiddled with this for a week or two to figure out what was causing this and finally took it to the dealer.
So, long story a little longer, I ended up having both rear door latch assemblies replaced. Now they work fine, but the people in the front still have to unlock the doors before the back can get out. Thats just by design.
Ouch, by design? Seems very unsafe to me. What if I get into an accident and we all have to exit the vehicle fast? I don't know if I will remember to press the "unlock" button!
The passengers may not have the presense of mind to pull up on the little lock button once they realize they cant open the door by pulling on the door handle!

Best I can recall, most other brands of cars I have rode in besides the fords, you can NOT open the door from the inside if its locked. Most other manufacturers have it so you have to unlock the door before it opens. My fords have been the only cars I have ever had that unlocked the doors automatically if you pulled the handle. My Nissan 350Z, My friends Civic, my parents mitsubishi galant and buick park avenue, None of these will open from the inside if the door is locked.
Is there anymore on this...everytime I go to the dealers I forget to askabout this! I have the same problem, and it is annoying, and I won't disable autolock!
I have a stupid question... did you ever try pulling up on the level to unlock the doors manually? Sometimes we get spoiled or lazy since the doors unlock when you pull the lever on the front door and it opens. As I have had to explain this to some of my back seat passengers.
