Earlier you were making a point by using the old and new Mustang 0-60 & 1/4 times. (now that I think about it, I kind of made the same arguement as well). The only flaw to this reasoning, is we are comparing apples to oranges. Yes the new GT is faster with extra weight, but the whole car has been redesigned: new suspension, a longer wheelbase, etc. So who is to say these changes are not what made the difference more so than the 3v. Just a thought...

The Lincoln Navigator with the 3v 5.4 does not require premium. It's not the first time FoMoCo has made a mistake on one of their websites.
I know that it is basically comparing 2 completely different cars, but it's the best 3v vs 2v or 4v comparison I can make. The F-150 is another example of how a much heavier vehicle became quicker going from 2 to 3 valve design. The HP and Torque numbers aren't made up (Ford learned a lesson about overrating a motor in the 99 SVT Cobra)

Thank-you.
Electronics controlling solenoids controlling hydraulics............and some of you think 1 extra cam is complex
Meanwhile, I just ordered my 3 valve V10 from Jeff(FTE advertiser and all around great guy) so I will be an Alpha tester.........may Ford have mercy!

That's freaking amazing then. To increase the torque AND the HP of an engine by what I'm guessing is enlarging the intake side(2 valves) is a great job. Usually increasing HP or going to higher RPM's means the low speed air velocity is slower/less efficient. Especially on a "smaller" HD truck motor.
So not only is the air velocity still there to create the best in class torque, it still breathes well enough to make some HP.........KEWL!!!

Looks like the Mountaineer is getting a 292 HP, 300 ft-lb version of the 3v 4.6. Anyone know if the Explorer is getting the same upgrades.

It's probably "improved" like the 4.6 was "Improved" on the 04 F150's. I think the difference was electronic throttle control and tweaked to be a bit more fuel efficient and get better emmisions. I was thinking that the Explorer already had the best tuned version of the 4.0, 210 HP and 254 ft-lbs, compared to 207 and 238 in the Ranger. To see how the 4.6 was "improved" for 04, check this link, about 2/3 the way down.

Ok, did some searching and found that the Explorer will get updated as well, although the article is very vague.
