Oops, I did it this time. I jumped started my 68 bronco but connected the battery on the wrong post. I know that was dum. So, it looks like the under dash wires are fried up pretty good. The break light is stuck on and problably some other things I don't know about. The new wire harness kit is so expensive. The question is: What vehicle (besides EB) has a similar color coded wires (or just a similar system) that will serve for a replacement? Thanks
Hello! I have a 1967 Ford Bronco. I'm having a problem with the charging system. The lights flash off and on approximately once per minute. I put a new voltage regulator on, which partially stabilized the voltage fluctuation, however with the new regulator, the charging voltage is 14.6 volts. Is this voltage too high? If so, how can I lower it? I feel it could burn out headlights as well as other bulbs. Thanks for your assistance.

Palo Stang,
To start with the first question, most Fords from the late 60's and early 70's share most of the wiring colors for different circuits. If you're looking to replace the dash harness without going with a new aftermarket kit, I may be able to help you get a good used OE harness. You need to determine how much damage there is and how much needs to be replaced. After you remove some of the wrap on the wiring, the damage might not be as severe as you think and a good section repair would fix it.
Ted L,
I wouldn't worry about 14.6 volts. It is at the high end of the scale, but normal. The headlights, and most of the electrical system should be safe to somewhere around 20 volts (Did that test one night on the boss' Toyota pickup with a 200 amp LN alternator and adjustable reg. Saw 21 volts on the meter, and the lights were really, really bright... for a couple of seconds )
Most of the replacement regulators sold currently are non adjustable. If the cover on your regulator is riveted in place, you're stuck with what it is set at.
You didn't specify what lights were flashing, but I'm going to assume that you are referring to the headlamps. The headlight switches have a built in circuit breaker that can cause the problem you are having. I would recommend replacing the switch.

Thanks, Jason, for your reply. I've had this Bronco for 20 years, and use it for a plow truck. I live in upper Minnesota, so there are lots of opportunities to plow. It seems like I'm working on it more than plowing with it! But... I love my Bronco! My youngest son is in California, and he tells me old Broncos are at a premium out there. I appreciate your tips.
