Hey! I'm back from Vegas. Wife's still there though. I pick her up from the airport on Thursday. Anyway...
Had a blast! Weather was nice and warm (compared to here anyway). Saw just about everything. Rode the Big Shot. I came back about $40 up, but my wife so far has yet to break even.
On to my mini tour. Caesar's is HUGE!!! We were in pretty much every hotel except Treasure Island and Bally's. Saw the Auto Collection at the Imperial Palace. (Some cars just didn't belong in there.) And the new monorail sure is handy when you want to get around on the strip. Just too bad they couldn't extend it to the airport. It'd probably cut into the cab business. Oh well.
I think the reason my wife hasn't broken even yet is because of the slots. I tried Roulette for the first time, and didn't have much (if any) luck the first night, but once I figured out how to place my bets, I did okay. I got my wife hooked on it now, so she's slowly working back. She just called and told me she turned 20 into 55.
That's awesome, congrats on coming back with money too, that pretty much NEVER happens to me. ha ha. I can't wait to go, I'm heading up for a few days (from phx) at the end of next month. I haven't been in a long time (about 4 years) so it'll be like my first time all over again with all the new casino's (new to me at least).
I need to learn to play craps, that's where the money's at. I'll sit and play 21 all day long but the ROI isn't the best compared to craps. Plus I'm not a big gambler, I sit at the $5 (and when avail $3) tables for 21.
Ya, good job on coming back with some dough! Most people go home crying. We had some very nice weather for a while, the highs were around 70. You picked the perfect time to come. Don't worry about not seeing bally's, you did not miss anything. The monorail is nice when it works but half of the time it is broke because of parts flying off. I know it is not finished yet but I am not sure if it is supposed to reach Mc Carren or not? As for the gambling, can't help you there(only 19). Keep on coming back, helps our economy!
Does the monorail go to all the major casinos there in town, it's been a few years since I have been there. Hopefully going to surprise the wife with a trip there this year--that's where we got married, five years in april! Looking forward to the return trip.
Naw, the monorail doesn't stop at all the hotels. Just some strategically placed stops at the south end of the strip. And only on the east side. It goes as far north as the Sahara, and as far as MGM Grand south. It's good to hear they'll be expanding the service.
A buddy from work went in December, and he said the monorail wasn't working then. Broke or busted or something.
Oh, and another thing. I flew on America West. I won't be making that mistake again. Seats too small, no leg room, seats reclined maybe 4 inches. Our original flight down on Saturday morning got cancelled, and they gave us a flight to Phoenix first class. WELL. Their first class is like coach on any other airline I flew with, except for the fact that we sat in leather seats.
Next time I'll fly Alaska. No complaints with them (from me) yet.
Yeah, america west (aka america worst) is pretty bad. I was stuck in cali because they cancelled my flight due to rain in phx. Apparently their planes can't fly in rain. ha ha. Pathetic. Luckily Vegas is only a 50 minute flight for me so cramming in there won't bother me too much.
I can't remember who it was, but I flew on an airline from Colorado to Phoenix once that had satellite tv on it. For $5 you got like 25 channels or something. It was great, $5 to watch world poker tour all the way home, SOLD!!! Seats were also super comfy too. Man, that's gonna bother me now, I can't think who it was. Oh yeah, Frontier Airlines!! Whew, now I can move on with my day....
I have never been much of a gambler, just a little black jack now and then, and I like to play the ponies....The thing that really impressed me years ago was flying into Vegas at night. The lights were spectacular, and I am sure there are more today. Just a comment from an "old time"!
Ya, they are a sight to see! It is unlike any other city at night, we are a 24 hour town so when you fly over the whole valley looks like a big light bulb. I was flying back one time and I was sitting next to a bunch of tourists that had never been here before, we flew in from the South East and went over the Valley Auto Mall. The people sitting next to me were pointing out the window saying, wow the strip is beauitiful, I laughed and said that that was a car dealership. They did not believe me until we flew into Mc Carren and saw the real thing, they looked like they were drooling!
My boss is in Las Vegas right now; I've been hearing all the fun stories...
My parent's also looooove Vegas..
I hear that you can get awesome Helicopter rides there, rent Ferrari's to go see the Hoover Dam, and they have shooting ranges that let regular Joe's fire full automatic weapons for fun.
I sooooooooooo have to visit sometime I'd also love to drive up and down the strip at night in my truck
