What is the part called that sits just below the master cylinder and it has a bunch of brake lines running to it? It also has what appears to be a nut on the end....which happens to be leaking like a seive on mine. Also, what would cause this to leak out that nut on the end of it?
No actually it's in my 94 4.0 Aerostar. It very well may be the proportioning valve....but what would cause it to leak? could it just have worn out or would there be an underlying cause?
The brake combination valve consists of two sections: brake load sensor proportioning valve and an interconnecting pressure differential shuttle. The brake load sensor proportioning valve reduces pressure at the rear brakes to balance the brakes, front to back. The pressure differential shuttle is a bypass feature that allows full application of rear brake pressure when front system pressure is significantly reduced. The differential pressure shuttle activates the brake warning light when excessive pressure difference is sensed in the brake system.
