Years ago I bought a '78 Ranchero GT Broughm with a 460. I had to replace the water pump before I could drive it. If I remember correctly, it took me a week and a half of after school afternoons to replace the blasted water pump.
Today I voluntarily entered a state of self-induced deja-vu... Yep, the old 460 in my '78 F150 has run through another water pump. I mean "another" because of all the blue silicone on the back of the pump I took off after an hour of work. I rather doubt Ford put it there. Anyway now that the water pump is out of the way, I can pull the radiatior, the alternator and bracket, the crank pulley and balancer, the timing chain and gears, AND the timing cover so I can start removing the half dozen BROKEN bolts...
I may as well install a new timing set, new belts, and hoses too. On the other hand I've got a notion a good old FE would look better under the hood...
