I picked up an 84 F150 XLT Lariat yesterday, it's got power everything, tilt, criuse, woodgrain dash, factory tach, trip odometer, dual tanks, factory clock, all the goodies, but, it's short an engine, and, a bit rusty. I'm thinking of swapping the entire interior into the 82. Anyone attempted such a feat?

Nope, I wouldn't say you were nuts. The cabs are the same so most everything should swap. Obviously it'll be time consuming doing things like swapping the power window controls, motors and such. But I can't think of any good reason not to do it. Unless you were right in the middle of doing something and just had to have your truck and it not be drivable for some reason. Heck if you don't want the goodies I'll take em.
No you just took the easiest conversion I ever found.I recently changed my '82 flareside from auto to standard.Everything from the clutch and brake pedals to the dash was a straight bolt in no problem conversion.Let's see,I had to drill three holes for the hydraulic cylinder which had already been center punched at the factory and,had to remove a section of sheet metal from the floorboard which also had been rolled at the factory to accomodate the plate from the donor truck. The whole conversion took about six hours and you would never tell that it had been done.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-May-02 AT 03:39 PM (EST)]I converted my 80 from a 3 on teh tree to a 4 on the floor, only a keen eye who spends far too much time around these trucks(me) would be able to tell, I swapped the steering colum, even used the factory bolts to hold down the floor plate... Now, on your 82, I'd know something was up quicklike, there was no hyd. clutch until late 83/84... Like I said, I spend far too much time around these trucks.

I swapped my NP435 out for a C-6 from my junked 84 I had. I took the steering column, floor plate, XLT dash, Tranfer case Adapter, flywheel, transmission dust shield, Starter, and the speed gear out of the transfer case. All bolted right up and took about 8 hours. Looks like it came that way, and I even got tilt-steering now too. I wanted to do the interior swap as well, but red didn't go with my blue truck...

Be prepared to replace more of the wiring harness than you may be figuring on. The tach and some of the other accessories may require more wiring than your truck harness has, even the underhood harness may be different. I know it is if you are going from idiot alt light to amp guage. I suspect the tach has a wire going out to the dist or coil.
I know all about the idiot light to guage swap... I did it in the 80, and, I used a factory tach cluster... It was a PITA... Now, my 82, it's weirdly optioned, it's pretty much bottom of the line, but, it has the factory guages, manual brakes but power steering, all kinds of fun stuff...

Well, I moved before I got to swap the interiors, but, last week, I picked up a factory tach cluster out of an 86, plugged it in, and, away it went, if your truck has factory guages, the factory tach cluster is a direct swap.

i'm glad to know that if i put a factory tach in it will work. I found one at a junk yard, I'll have to go back and get it, I also found the woodgrained dash bezels for my truck, but there out of a deisel, so they have the panel on the lower left that has some idiot lights instead of the little change tray.
