Intermittent problem with door ajar light, 1st start in the morning no problems, when starting the 2nd time a few hours later the door ajar light comes on and….. this is really weird, anytime I come to stop the DOME LIGHT comes on then when I start to move again the dome light goes off.
first, you want to operate your dome light/instrument light dimmer control wheel to make sure it's working. if that checks out then your problem is probally in one of the switches that is mounted on the door latches (inside the door). before you disassemble each door to find out which switch is the culprit, try spraying a lubricant such as wd-40 into the latch areas of each door and open and close the doors several times. this tip ussually cures the problem.
My '99 does the same thing. It is when the truck is sitting in the sun and gets warm inside. After I start, the door ajar lite stays lit and the overhead goes out until I come to a stop. I've diagnosed some wierd stuff but this takes the cake.
if the above tip i gave does not work, try reseting the g.e.m. module. it 's mounted on the top side of the fuse box under the dash. it's kind of hard to get to it . reset it by unplugiing it and waiting 2 - 5 mins and plug it back in. this unit controls misc electrical functions.
I had this same problem on my 2000. The part that got me was the door ajar light and dome light turning off when I stopped at a stop sign. The wonderful people in here taught me the WD-40 trick and it works great. I only have the problem in the summer when it is warmer. I carry one of the small cans of WD-40 in my center console and have to use it every 4-6 weeks to prevent the problem. When I feel like taking on a not so fun job I may replace the switches inside the doors. I just hate working inside of doors, sometimes hard to get back together the right way. I would rather be under the hood working.
Glad to see (actually sorry to see) someone else has experienced this problem, I was starting believe I had a ghost. I'll try the tip "Fedextech" gave about using WD40 and let you know the results.
Have you had this problem, my Trip Computer in the overhead console quit working, by pushing real hard on the Mode button I got it to come back on for about a week, now it just fades in & out then stays off after pushing on the button.
Thanks Glenn, I’m with you on tearing into door panels I always screw something up, if the WD40 doesn’t cure the problem I’ll take it to the dealer (after I mortgage the house to pay for it)
