Has anyone else had a surging problem when their truck is re-started after
partially warming up? If I drive a mile or so, then do some shopping when I
start the truck it surges with part throttle application. I hold my foot absolutely
still but it feels like I'm stabbing the gas pedal. This goes away after just 30
or 40 seconds so it isn't a big problem, just wondering if anyone else has
experienced this and if there's a fix. I have 5000 miles on my truck.
Yes, I just started noticing it about a week ago on my truck. I thought it was me. I'm usually a pretty smooth driver, and i thought maybe my foot was on the pedal weird and slipped off, but it happened a couple of more times. I'm glad someone else brought it up because i was beginning to think i was going nuts.
Hi,,'04 S.cab 5.4 4x4....yes I have experienced the same on starting off with light accelerating. Went to dealer and they could not get it to do the same. Happened twice now but am not worrying about it, they updated the computer so will just drive and enjoy the truck till something "really" goes wrong.....
I have had mine do this as well. It did it pre-superchip and post superchip. I dont want to take the truck in as they will probably update the PCM and thus I will need to send the superchip unit back for re-programming.
The problem with duplicating the surging is the engine can only be partially warmed up, then restarted before it totally cools down. Does it almost every
time I go to the store a half a mile away. I shop for a half hour and then when I
start it it will do it. I'm not sure I'll be able to duplicate it for the dealer either.
I would talk to the service manager before bringing it in(may be a waste of time) to make sure they are going to reprogram. I had mine done a couple of weeks ago, and seems fine, throttle response is improved also. Dealers don't seem to like reprogramming so be presistant.

Not all dealers are like that. Mine told me I get free reprogramming for my entire 3 year warranty. But even if they did come out with a new program, I think I'd reject it. I get great gas mileage, takes off great, great response, and shifts nicely. Don't fix if not broke!!!

Sounds like ya got a good dealer. My dealer reprogramed but only hand wrote it up(said he put it under something different so Ford will pay them) no sticker, but there is defenately a difference. Also, when I brought my wife's X type in for throttle lag to the Jag dealer, they said it was "normal" and did nothing.
