Creaky Ball Joint
Just was wondering if anyone had any ball joint problems with their trucks in the 20,000 to 25,000 mile range. My truck has 23,000 miles on it and either the upper or lower ball joint on the passenger side is creaking horribly when the wheel is turned. The OEM joint are not greaseable so I will have to bring it in to the dealer and see what they say. Just want a heads up as to what I should expect from the dealer.

it is quite possible.... mine went bad at about 75000 miles, and i know a few others in the same range. i think the job books out at about 3 hours for each side at the shop..... not cheap if warranty doesnt pick it up. but it is a fun job do by yourself, and there are a couple good threads on this site to help. good luck, and let us know how it works out. it is real easy to check yourself though, just jack the truck's tire off the ground, and then rock the tire to check for unwanted movement, that will give you an idea what the dealer will say.

The front end seems to be tite there is no clunking or wandering. I would jack it up and check it but we got 20" of snow on Sat. and my drive way is stuffed with snow. The truck is under warranty so I'm not worried about the cost. I just hope the mechanic does a good job as flat rate guys tend to cut corners to make the time. My buddy at work has a friend who is a ford tech and he told them they use a grease gun with a needle on the end and shoot grease through the boot to get the creaking to stop. As for changing them myself that's not a problem I did my Bronco's ball joints and my buddies F150 but they were maual hubs nor ESOF like I have now.
