Speedo Calibration

Speedo Calibration

I just bought my first Ford. It's a 2000, F250, 4x4, with 35" tires.

I am trying to figure out what it takes to recalibrate the speedometer. My Jeep was an easy plastic gear change in the tranny.

Can anyone help?

I used the superlift truspeed calibrator in my last truck and Im putting it in my new one also. I thought it worked pretty good.

Either the Truespeed like FAB150 said, or the dealer, they should be able to get you close for the 35"s

I have the same truck with 35's and 4 inch lift. Dealer stated that 35's was outside the computers range of adjustment. So I also put in the superlift unit and it's worked great. Also, I'm getting true mpg's from the computer since it now is calibrated to actual speed. i.e....speedo's not reading 55 when your going 65.

So if you went the "dealer" route, What exactly do they do?

they got real close on my 04 with 315's prolly a mile or two off it looks right on using mile markers ,but that is as far as it would go 601 revolutions per mile I think i needed 589 but its a hack of alot cheaper than one of those electronic gizzmos

They hook up to the computer and change the wheel revolutions read by the computer to a set figure (tire size). If your size is out of range..i.e. too big a tire, they could decrease the setting to the lowest possible value built into the computer, but it would still be significantly off. I was told our year trucks would't go low enough for 35's, although newer models had more range variances built in.
