After smoking one transmission completely, and beginning to wear on this one, my tranny solution will be here on Thursday
Any of you guys running high HP chips (Edge, TS Instigator, BullyDog, ect) or anything beyond a chip need to take a serious look at this- www.suncoastconverters.com
Go to the new products page, and it is at the top.
Suncoast has a full 5R110 rebuild kit for 695.00. It comes with clutches, steel, pistons, and pressure plates to supplement any kind of transmission tuning.
Here's a friction chart off thier website
Clutch Friction Count-OEM-Sun Coast
O/D 3 Frictions to 5 Frictions
Intermediate 3 Frictions to 5 Frictions
Forward 4 Frictions to 5 Frictions
Direct 4 Frictions to 6 Frictions
Low/Reverse 6 Frictions to 6 Frictions
Frictions are Red Eagle Hi-energy with Kolene steels where applicable
With proper electronic tuning (according to some of the techs at Suncoast) it is reasonable to expect 650+ rwhp holding power with this clutch/piston set.
I will be doing the installation this weekend (assuming all goes well) and I'll take plenty of installation pictures for reference, because I'm sure there will be others of you to follow.
Just thought I would alert any of you interested that there are reasonably priced tranny solutions now available.
if you are planning on making the hp you keep threatening i would add the billet in and out put shafts like i have,a broken input shaft can take out the tq con and do lots of other damage

I have had a total of 4 "large name" transmission shops tell me that the TS has some of the strongest I/O shafts they have seen so far- I'll only replace them if they break
ok i had 2 tell me they are good to about 550 hp ,time will tell, just passing on what i was told, fact is anything will break....
Oh yes, you are exactly correct with that statement...
BTW, I was not ragging on your comment (if it came across that way). I was just stating that I don't plan on changing them until one breaks or strips....gotta find out how strong they are somehow

PS.- where did you get yours?
i dont want to say over the board but i will say this,i was told if i didnt go with billet shafts since i was going after more than ,one said 525,one said 550,i wouldnt have a warrant, mine is a complete turn key.feel free to pm me for tranny info and impressions but i dont wont to go telling tales and names to.by the way no offense taken,we just got totally different info from at least 2 if not 3 of the big tranny guys.also if you just wanted a kit transgo has pone out for about 250-325,not as compl;et as the suncoast but holds very well just the same.i am curios will you use the stock tq con ,modify it or did you go triple lock

As for Transgo, is this strictly a shift kit? If so, it would complement the Suncoast setup very well; the Suncoast kit doesn't include that. Any specific names for a good source for the shift kit?
As for the TC, I went with a triple-lok following the rebuild of my first transmission, a few months ago. The clutches weren't available at the time.
PSD, I was just looking into the Suncoast kit. It is the only one I could find, ATS wont sell a kit. Who's triple converter did you use and does it take a controller? What change did you notice with it? Keep us informed because that is the route I am going to need to take real soon because I miss my Edge. I looked into the Transgo online and saw nothing for the 5R110 but I didnt call. My tranny is toast!
the transgo is a shift kit with clutches and perhaps a few other things in it i am not sure, suncoast may use the transgo kit and expand on it much like they did when they started doing the allisons for the chevys.so if you fet the suncoast i am sure it will have all that and more of the transgo.as for tq con it is my opinion that suncoast has the ebst one on the market, evebn though i dont have one in my ford, thye wernt shipping when i needed a trannny.also the transgo kit may not be fully available yet the tranny shop owmer told me he was beta testing but this was several months ago,i just assumed it was out now.no you dont have to have a controller for the tranny, but ats is trying to complete a co-pilot for the ford to help raise line pressueres and so forth, but it seems that the superchip and the sct custom chips can do almost the same thiing without all the extra exspence.finally i know of a company that is working on higher flow solenoids for the trans, seems promissing but still motnhs away
