Carter carb
I have a 81 F150 300 4 spd the carter 1 bbl is dribbling gas at an idle and I'm getting poor gas mileage. I want to rebuild it but it doesn't have a tag, when I went to get a kit for it there were 3 to choose from the only number I see is 2624 in the casting. How can I find out which kit I need?

Dan, I can't help you with the rebuild kit. I'm just chiming in to relay what happened with my carb. Mine on my 85 was literally falling apart. I do most of my own work but this carb worried me so I took it to a mechanic that I use for bigger jobs and that I trust completely. He rebuilt it for me at a cost of $255 vs a new one at $550. I had to take the truck back 3 times for him to get it right. Thankfully he is an ethical guy and didn't charge me for the returns. But in his words, "it's a tough carb to rebuild". I've seen other posts on here that had similar problems getting it right. Not trying to scare you outta doing your own work, just passing along what little I know about these carbs.

The carb itself isn't that old it and was a factory reman. but I think the float sunk and if I tear into it I'm going to need gaskets. The truck is a toy I have fun tinkering with it thats the only reason I don't buy a new carb.
