Door Panel replacement

Will the door panels from an 89-90 F-series fit in 81-86? I have an 82 F250 and the panels are about shot. I can get replacement panels (not in my color unfortunately) and paint them, but the new style panels in the 89-90s trucks look better. Any one tried this?

got one right now. looks a lot better i think. you have to redrill a couple of mounting holes but other than that its a snap.

Door Panel replacement

What year door panels did you install? What year truck do you have now? Also did you have to do any triming around the door handle (opening lever) or anywhere else for that matter - or just drill a couple of holes for the retainer clips?

mine has power windows, used the door handels and panels off of an 87. course i changed all the interior too. i dont know how they will fit if you have roll up windows. you might have to change the window regulator. mine is an 81.

I have 82 with power windows/door locks. Glad to hear the 87 panels fit. I can get better replacement door panels (color selection) with the newer models.
It seems to be getting tougher to find things fro the older trucks.

One last question. Did you have to extend the pwr windom and door lock harness? If I remember correctly, the 87 and up models have the switches down lower on the panel (on the arm rest I think). I assume I will need to get the new style switches so the fit the panel correctly. Do the 80-86 model window switch harnesses plug into the 86-89 switch or will I need a plug receptical as well?

You can get original equipment style panels from LMC Truck. I bought a pair and they paint em and coat em with UV resistant stuff. They fit perfect and look real good. ONly thing is, they didnt come with the chrome trim and the woodgrain panel over the speaker. I got em for 165 bucks and they come with new lower window rubbers. I got a 84 F 150 XLT. Oh, by the way, you cant order em over the internet, you gotta get the catalog over the net then order em outta the catalog. They took about 5 days to get to my house.

Thanks for the link. I thought it might be nice to upgrade to th enewer style panel (87+) but as you pointed out the woodgrain panel and trim from my XLT could not be transfered.
I still need to figure out if my truck interior is dark blue or medium blue. The colors of the door panels I've seen so far only come in light or dark blue, neither looks right.
