1986 Ranger...Explorer??
My stepson was just given a pretty banged up 86 Ranger "Explorer" by his dad; V6 (thinking this must be the 2.9L?), 4WD, 5-spd, regular cab,two tone red and white, sure not much to look at. But, it runs and I was going to give him a hand making it reliable. Anyone know what this Explorer pickup series was all about? Can't find anything anywhere that clues me in as to whether or not this truck is worth it; master cylinder has to happen pronto. Help? Thanks!

One of the first things to look for is a cracked head, these 2.9l seem to break a lot of them. Any milky oil, antifreeze look ok, and if you put plugs in it be sure to do a compression test. It only takes one time getting them hot to break a head.
