The heater was working great on my '94 Bronco until my teenage son forced the heater temp control **** a little past it's normal stop position. Now I only get cool to slightly warm air.
I've also noticed now that when I switch the heater from "Off" to "Vent" I get an initial burst of cool air, a quick burst of hot air, and then cool air.
I thought it may have been a cable adjustment problem so I had the temperature cable adjusted which only helped a little. The heater hoses are hot so the heater is getting hot water to it.
Any ideas on how to get my hot air back?
Can the control be repaired or will it need to be replaced?
I have found on 92-96 F150s and Broncos by dropping glove box down and removing the 5/16 bolt size screws on the heater case you can reach inside and remove what has fell in there that will not let temp door completely close off from evaporator core so all you get is full heat from heater core( no water valve on these-temp door determines hot or cold or blended temp). Have found pencils, ink pens, pocket knives, cigars, etc.Usualy comes to our dealership after thermostate has been replaced and temp. cable has been adjusted to no avail.
Thanks for the reply, Trublufords.
I'm going to try what you've recommended and maybe I'll find what's causing that temp door problem.
Like I said in my original post, the temp control **** was forced past its normal stop position for maximum temperature. I think when that happened something in the control itself was forced out of position.
Now, with the temp control in max heat position, when I turn the mode control to "VENT" "FLOOR" "MIX" or any position I feel a burst of cool air followed by a burst of hot air and then nothing but very slightly warm air. It's like the temp door is now going to the wrong position.
Any more thoughts as to what is wrong with the controls?
When I had my heater apart due to a cold air problem I noted that there is an adjuster on the sleeve of the blender door control cable. Remove glove box door and look in the top left corner of the cover . On mine there is a red bush on the sleeve that fits into a white fitting on the core cover. Essentially it allows you to vary the position of the "stop" points of the blender door. From what I remember there is a tab to pull and then you can adjust the sleeve position. Try that before you take the heater cover off which is a bit fiddly.
The temp control cable was a little out of adjustment but the main problem was a gift from the prior owner-----a piece of a wooden shish-ka-bob stick... I guess it had finally fallen down to where it blocked the temp door and started causing me problems.
You guys are the greatest-thanks again for your help.
