84 300I6 4x4 - I'm in the process of upgrading my exhaust with EFI manifolds & running true duels - My next plans are for the intake, I'm going to get an Offy intake & a 4bbl carb of some type. A friend will give me a 600cfm 4bbl carb that's in real good shape if I want it. Is that too much for this motor? I've seen a lot of threads about 390 & 450 holleys, but really nothing about anything bigger. Please let me know.
i am thinking of doing the same thing, and have been doing a lot of research on this site, from what i understand the 390 is good for cruising or just everday use, the 450 is good for more serious towing or even racing, a person would have to do some major head work to get a 600 to be usefull, i think a 600 cfm carb would be to much, you can get an offy intake and a holley 390 carb out of JCWhitney for 200 dollars
Thanks, I thought it woulde be a bit much. This is a daily driver that's used a little for towing a tractor around. I'm going to run with the duels & my stock intake & 1bbl for a while to see how I like it. Then probably get the Offy & a 450cfm later. I'm anxious to see the preformance increase just opening up the exhaust will give. What does the exhaust change do for fuel mileage?
dont forget to get a taller airfilter & a threaded stud so you can close
the top of your air box.
take your stock air cleaner in to the parts store & match it up to same size but taller. when you open the exahust. helps the in & the out. not good for cold weather warm ups. so keep your hot air tube & org. air cleaner for winter.
i have read that some guys with just the efi exhaust swap have seen increases up to 5 mpg on the interstate, town driving does not flow enough to change anything, i am for sure doing the exhaust, i have the 3.08 gear going to put in a 3.55 and change my T18 4spd for a zf 5spd, if truck does not improve enough to keep up with my friends i will do the offy intake
p.s. it sounds like you are going to get the exhaust done soon, please e-mail me and tell me how it does

I'm getting the efi's in a couple of days, should be about a week & I'll have them on & the duels made. On a 4x4 what's involved in swapping from a 4 to 5 speed? I like the 4 but @ higher speeds, it's just to low. I'll let you know how it works.
Got the duels today. I've not driven enough to check the mileage, but I love the way it feels. I looked today for a taller air cleaner, not much luck. I'l do some more looking later. I went with cheap turbo mufflers, it's not too loud sounds good @ idle, a little buzzy @ higher rpms though
