Tailgate cables

I got the hook up on some tailgate cables at a junkyard, they are brand new looking. The Bronco they came off of looked like it had been restored/over hauled recently and had unfortunately been hit head on. Anyways, on my Bronco the screw head on the gate is rounded out and so I can't get it out to put on the new cable. I tried pliers but they just slip off, and don't really help any. Anyone know how I can git er out?

You could try vise-grips, they may work a bit better than pliers, since you can lock them in position. Or if you had a welder you could try welding a nut on the screw head and then use a wrench to get it off.

Warm the metal around the bolt with a hairdryer and chill the bolt with an ice cube. Use the aforementioned visegrips and see if that helps. Don't forget the penetrating oil too.
