To all my fellow Ford fans, I have a question concerning wheel offset. I'm looking to buy new wheels and tires for my '04 FX4 and as you all know it's like buying an engagement ring for the girlfriend. Basically it is like a commitment, so I don't want to make any mistakes if you know what I mean! I'm looking at some 10 inch wide wheels that have a -25mm offset. I'm guessing this will bring the wheel out approximately 2 inches from stock, does this sound right? Does anyone have pictures of their wheels with this offset? I'm not sure if this offset will look good, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hey dude, not to be picky, but do you want to know about offset or backspacing? Offset often get confused with backspacing. Backspacing is the distance from inside edge of the inner wheel to the mounting surface. On a 17" wheel you normally find a backspacing of 4 to 5 inches. Offset is the exact distance from the mounting surface to the center of the wheel. They are not the same thing. They may look the same but like you said it's a big deal. If you want the wheel to really poke out try getting something with a low backspacing number the lower the number the more they poke out. A 15X10 has a backspacing of about 3 something inches and you've probuly seen how much they poke out. The smallest number I have found for the 17 is 4". I like my wheels to poke out so this is a bummer for me!
Thanks Ford-man, I see what your saying. Just about all the websites I have been on looking at rims only give the offset. With what you said, I can guesstimate how much the backspacing will be. Thanks again!
