aiight. i have a problem w/ my fog lights. they dont work any more, the switch on the dash lights up when i turn it on, and i know the fuse isnt bad.
so i went under the truck ( by the way it's a 94 ranger w/ 4.0 4wd power everything) and grabbed the continuity tester, and touched it to the white wire, and the light went off on both sides. but i tryed the black wires on both sides and neither are getting power. any ideas on what's the culprit? thanks
Check the bulbs and the ground with an ohm meter. I'm not following the light going off thing, but I use VOM's for electrical testing and troubleshooting. One of those wires will be hot when the lights are on, the other will be ground; not sure on which color is ground.
the fog lights are supposed to turn off when the high beams are put on, in NJ you will fail inspection if they don't. I'm not sure about other states though.
yeah yeah, i know my lights have to be on and that my high beams cant be on. im aiming more towards a bad ground. and waht i mean by the light going on, is the continuity tester thing has a light that goes on if the wire has current.
how do i reground the wire somewere else??
and also, it doesnt seem likely that my bulbs are out since i just bought the lights like 2 months ago. and i cant really take the lights apart i dont think. or atleast i dont know how to

Your right, the lights are sealed and can't be taken apart. You CAN easily remove the bulbs and check/replace them. $5 at Wally-World.
My main problem with these fog lights on my 1994 4X4 XLT is rocks taking the lens out. Pretty expensive, around $60 every time.

The sad thing on the earlier rendition of Rangers using the current body style is that the glue/sealant used to secure the glass to the body of the light disintigrates over time and the lens falls off . I've found that it's good to check them now and then and if loose, get it off, clean it, and reinstall with a bead of Permatex black. Gently pry on the glass, on the side of the lens, with a screwdriver to check. Be ready to catch the lens if it falls or do it over grass or a peice of carpet.
To deal with the ground, determine which of the two wires on each bulbs are ground and simply run a new ground wire. Make good, sealed connections to prevent future problems. Crimp connectors with shrink fit ends that have a little glue in them and seal when heated are my preference. Myself, I'd try to find where the OEM harness grounds and see if I could fix it.
yeah, i dont have the stock lights tho. i have some extreme lights from checker auto. they werent 60 dollars but they were 40. i talked to my shop teacher about my problem and he said that he will help me re ground them so i can get points for it to.
if this is the problem, which im hoping it is.
i will let you guys know, and thanks!
