Guys...
I have a 1985 F-150 4.9 Standard trans, No A.C.
The problem I have is... I cannot get the charging system working. THe battery will drain after running a couple of days.
I did the following:
Replaced the battery - altenator - regulator - coil - negative battery cable - ignition module. It shows 12.1 volts at the battery by itself not connected, 21.1 volts when connected & running. I cleaned the negative clamp at the frame mount. Checked fuses, all OK.
Get a test light or meter and verify voltages. You should have 12 volt on "s" when the key is turned to run. You should have 12 volts on "a" all the time.
Sounds like the regulater is full fielding the alternator and then shorts to ground at the same time. I haven't heard of a Ford alt putting out 21+ volts though.
