Too many years ago (40) after I came back from military service in Germany (Xweibrucken) I bought a 1940 Ford Tonner pick-up, running for $75. I've only ever seen or heard of 3 others. Does anyone know the production figures for the 1 Tons?he way in 1975 after spending 4 years restoring it I was tranferrred to the east coast from Alberta and had to sell it. Always wanted another but never seen them...Oh, well.
RA, if you go to www.carnut.com, click pics in the bar towards the bottom of the page, then trucks, and 1940's, there are two 1940 1 1/2 ton pickups shown that you would enjoy seeing. They could be 1 tons. Sometimes the picture ID is not completely correct. Mike
nada as well, but that's where I bought mine. Had a 24 foot equipment trailer built out of a burned out house trailer and ran around Northern Alberta for 5 or 6 years moving trailer lean-tos, old cars, tractors etc and never had a moment's trouble. Tough old truck!
Those trucks are either 3/4 ton or 1 ton trucks. If they had the proper wheels, the 3/4 would have 16" one pc. wheels and the 1 ton would have 17" split rims. Both have an 8' box.I bet your Canadian truck had a badge on the hood side that said one ton.I saw a truck in Canada that was like that and later found it was peculiar to the Canadian version.I was driving my 38 tonner and was quite envious. Also, the nose is much more handsome on the 40-41 trucks IMHO.I have always loved the heavy pickups, specially those with 7.50x 17's.When I finally tired of running the 38 in my daily business,I bought an 02 F350 psd,and the first thing I did was put on a set of 255 85 16's on it.(Same basic dimensions as the 17's).I just posted a photo of my 40 in the gallery, more to come.Hope you find that tonner......GB
Thanks...My truck had the "One Ton" trim on the hood air vents, and the 7.50 x 17 tires. It was a real rumblebuggy, but since it and I were conceived the same year we have a certain kinship. One was advertized in Montreal least year, but if I remember correctly he (a dealer) was asking in the $30,000s. Too rich for my blood.
