I am in the market for an F150 and the local dealer suggested a few items, including "limited slip". I am by now way a mechanical man, but I have a basic guess of what this is and could probably take a few minutes to do the research myself. However, I figured I could let the knowing come to me an save me that hassle. Lazy, I know.
All right guys, bless me with your knowledge. What is it and is it worth the money? PS. This will be a pleasure truck for me, no heavy work is anticipated.
I've been stuck the same way. I wish I could get an E-Locker for mine. Get stuck, push a button, get out! I think I'm just gonna put an Auburn L/S in the front of my 04. An a full blown locker in my 88 F-150.
Limited slip has to do with how much power is delivered to each back wheel.
Here is an explanation I got a while back:
"Limited Slip Differential: When your main drive wheel slips, power transfers to the other wheel. Without limited slip when your drive wheel spins, you better hope you bought a 4x4."
I experienced this recently in my beloved old buddy, my '88 F-150 (inline 6, 200k, plenty of rust, runs like a dream). It does not have LS, and I was on a very small ice patch, so small that only one back wheel was on it, but it was the drive wheel, so the wheel did spin and spin. I think with LS, the other wheel would have picked up the slack---
