How do i stop lifter tick??
If it ain't broke.....change stuff till it is!
When i start my engine in the morning, I hear a faint tick coming from what i assume to be the lifters. It fades away to nothing after warming up, But i wanna know if there is a way to eliminate this. Different oil? maybe use some type of additive to clear the oil passages or something?? what do u all use?? thanx in advance for help. later!

Aight, I didn't want to say it cause i'ts not a ford. I used to use this forum when I had my 86' F-150 4x4, and it gave me lots of help. But I recently sold it for a 1996 Grand Prix GT with 112,000 miles on it. But it has a slight tick at startup. I went and bought some of that stuff that says it quiets lifters, and i'm gonna add it after my next oil change here. Hopefully it works.
P.S...The engine is the GM 3.1L V6 SFI.

haha, funny! I sold the ford cause i was tired of trying to fix crap on it!!!! It had a bad idle, and i replaced 3 gaskets, cleaned the EGR and throttle body. replaced the IAC and did a few other things. I was tired of the high maintenance and low gas milage of a V8 4x4. so i sold it for a faster sportier grand prix. I'm not saying pontiacs are better, but I already love my prix more than that truck.

Seriously though,
I really don't know much about noisy lifters. What I do know is that in the morning all your oil is down in your pan and the lifters are kind of dry when you first crank up. It usually goes away after a couple minutes, after your oil starts to circulate through the engine. Yes, when the miles start to pile on a motor the lifters tend to get a little worn and you probably will have more lifter chatter than normal. You can spend the money and get them replaced or you can live with the noise. I had a 1990 Nissan pickup with 86k miles on it when I bought it. I always heard the lifters on it till the day I sold her at 144k. She ran strong, but was loud. I'm sure that noisy lifters wont hinder your lifestyle too much if'n you can see past the first morning crank. On a lighter note, Marvels does have a good reputation for helping. That's all I got, hope you figure something out. Good luck
