hi new poster in this forum. i am looking to learn all about the 302 and 351w. i want to know stock specs, factory variants and performance models, weak points/ good points, any helpful hints and tech tips, differences between the two motors, interchangable parts, and the list goes on. i want to know everything i can. bottom line is what are some good sites for information and compare and contrasts of the 351w and 302?
302 and 351w are both small blocks and the heads interchange as do the exh manifolds, the 351w has more torque and slightly more overall size -wider abouot 1and1/2 in. and taller about an inch. the 351 weighs about 100 lbs more and has great big crank journals which gives it a stout bottom end.Ford has handicapped both engines by using very small valves and poor heads, and with good heads these engines are as good as any chev or dodge.
there a ton of small variations over the years..a very, very good book is the
"ford parts intechange book"available from summit racing...I have it
it covers everything from difference in fly wheel weights to harmonic balancers
through the years..a handy book it covers small to big blocks from old to newer
ford engines
