Turn-down effectiveness?

how effective are turn downs at the end of the pipes at keeping high water from backing into the exhaust? would they be able to keep on jugging while the exhuast pipe is fully submerged (given that the air intake is above water)?

They should be fine as long as the engine is running just the same as any system.

how much more effective are they than traditional side exiting pipes?

mine exit on the passenger side behind the rear tire, and the street infront of my house is slightly on an incline and when ive parked with the pipe pointing towards the street and it had rained, water has gotten into the pipe. when i started the engine water shot out. how damaging is this?

how deep does this water get on your street? is your street actually a river? are you sure the water that came outta the exhaust just wasnt condensation?

I doutb the water got very far, and I know it didn't get through your muffler and never made it to the cats. Don't worry about it. Turndowns aren't for water protection anwyays as far as I knew.

sorry i wasnt that clear, the water got in from the rain falling down, since its at an angle the rain falls into the pipe, that was just kinda a side question.

main question is, does having turn downs really help keep water from gettin sucked into the exhaust while driving or would a regular pipe exiting out the side be just as effective?

no water will be sucked into any tailpipe. It's a positive pressure tube...everything goes out. Only time you'd have to worry about water getting up there is if the vehicle was on its nose or side. Even then..it will not get through the stock muffler, and never get past the cat's.
