Battery Cable/ Short problem

I just got back from school after a month of not seeing my 1979 Bronco. I was greeted by finding my battery not in my Bronco. Seems that my brother used the battery in his jeep at some point in time. I got to put the battery back in the bronco and i am getting an aweful sparking and the the alternator starts to smoke. Now this thing hasn't moved in over a month. I have no idea what is going on here. any ideas?

Mine sparked when the battery cable to the solenoid was loose. Maybe give that a quick check.

You may have fried many things in your electrical system. Fuse links, alternator, and ignition system.
