Hello everyone...I'm in the process of fixing some issues with a '76 F250 I purchased last month and I'm having an issue with the steering system. If the truck is parked when running and I turn the steering wheel more than half way in either direction it makes a horrible squealing sound that sounds like a fan belt slipping. It also does it when rolling at a slow speed. What could it be? PS fluid low? Bad fluid? Its very very annoying and I really want to fix the problem. Any help would be great...thanks!
Low fluid will do that and a loose belt will also cause that check your fluid level if it where it should be then check your belt make sure it is tight. But not tight enough to cause it to break.
replace the belts first off, then make sure they are tightend properly, they should only have about 3/4 of an inch of total play in them, check the fluids and you should be set........
it wouldn't hurt to take some scotchbrite to your pulleys if a belt has been slipping or been smoked. when this happens, it tends to leave a slight film on the pulley which means the new belt won't bite as good as it should.

good advise, that never really crossed my mind...........
