Testing IAC valve?

How can i test my IAC valve if i suspect it's faulty? My truck won't idle unless i give it gas, and it kinda runs rough even when i can keep it running.

Use a volt meter and you should have 10.5V (ign on, motor not running) on the wires of the connector. Use a ohm meter and the valve should read 7 to 13 ohms (measure the valve, no wires connected to it). Take the valve off and check the rubber o-ring and clean out the carbon with throttle body cleaner (Q-tip or a small brush helps). The little valve should move easily and should retract to it's seal by itself. Make a new gasket & oil the o-ring when you put it back together ....Terry '90 F150 302

same thing used to happen with mine, had a really really really bad idle. i took off the IAC valve and cleaned it with some degreaser and lubed it up real good. i put it back in and it got a little better but still idled roughly. then last week, i took off the throttle body. i notices that the throttle body gasket was sucked into the channels that carry in the air from the IAC. so if cleaning the IAC doesnt do it, check the throttle body gasket. a new one only costs like $1.30.
