I want to change the worn factory carb on my 84' f150 to a holley 2bbl. What do I do about all the vacuum hoses that are for the factory carb? Will the new carb affect emissions much?
Your 2bbl IS pretty much a Holley that says Motorcraft or Autolite on it...It may even have Ford stamped on it....replacement carburetors are available at automotive parts stores and yes, depending on which cfm you go with, performance and emissions are going to change. most replacements you buy come with instructions to assist you in doing the changeover by instructing you to which vacuum port does what...also, you have to look into your choke. automatic(thermal), electric or manual(not the thing to use in my opinion).
There are several Holley direct replacements for your truck.
"Your 2bbl IS pretty much a Holley that says Motorcraft or Autolite on it"
The above statement is really not true as far as a Motorcraft 2150 series carb is concerned, but that really doesn't matter. What are you trying to achieve? Look and see if your distributor has a vacuum line hooked to it(has a vacuum advance can on the side). If not, you are going to have to replace more than just the carb if you want to go to something besides the original factory unit. No vacuum line means it's computer controlled carb and timing, and you will have to change out the dist and ignition module. If you want to go in and do the least amount of work, rebuild or replace the original carb with one just like it. If you want something different, and don't have smog inspections, I would wipe out the whole top of the engine. Get a 4 bbl manifold, a small 600 holley or edelbrock carb, and duraspark II or aftermarket dist + ignition module. Then you won't have to worry about any vacuum lines.
