4x4 not engaging

I am having troubles with my 4x4. I flip the switch from 2 high to 4 aws or 4high or 4 low and the gauge on the dash lights up and shows that it accepted it. However, it doesn't engage. I replaced the transfer case a year ago and at that time, it was working.

Is the motor not engaging? I checked the fuses in the fuse block and they look good.

What else could it be?

4X4 was not engaging on my '98 Expedition with the 5.4 L......this forum spoke of high failure rate of the dash board switch....so I changed that out ($40.00). That wasn't it. The next item this forum spoke of high failure rates was the transfer case motor. I replaced that..........and I was back in business! Ford dealers want $320.00 for a motor. Advance Auto sales remanufactured units for $150.00. They have a one year warranty.
