That size tire leaves the axle gear ratio at about 3.00
Way to much for the tranny to push snow through a 8" lifted axle with huge tires in high range.
With a diesels power and a high gear ratio, + pushing tons of snow = a lunched tranny.
The trouble with the trannys was in the summer of 04...
I'm sure they didn't let any 05s out the door with the same thing.
I think you trashed your tranny.
Think about it, an 8 inch monster lift on a truck that already is up there!
Huge tires to push snow? You cooked it.
It's the '05's that are having the trouble, there was no torqueshift in '04 for the gassers, the torqueshift has a pretty low first gear, alot of guys I know push with old SD's (4R100's) with 35's and have no problems, with the low first gear, he really isn't bogging the truck\tranny as much as you think he would, keep in mind the 275\70\18's on the new 350's equal out to 33's. The tranny was junk from the start, I just hope his new one has the improved pin\rod. As far as the clanking\banging in the front, I am going to have to say it's the lift on that one. What did you start with 4.10's or 3.73's, 4.10's arn't to bad, some 4.56's sure would be nice, but way to much money, I am going to pay the extra $350 for the 4.30's on my next one and hope for the best, 4.10's come on the 350's, just hope it's worth the $350 for 0.20 worth of gears?!
Steve have you heard anything back from the dealer? I have been reading a lot lately and am hearing an awful lot about tranny problems and am waiting to order. I cant afford to have a truck down, so I am kicking around the idea of just waiting until April and giving the '06 a shot. Let us know what info you hear.
well as i sit here and type this my truck has been at the dealer since monday nite, as of right now it is still sitting out back on the lot and they haven't touched it. when i spoke with them they said that they will get to it when they have time. i asked about a loaner and the guy laughed at me and said no way. i am ready to call ford because this is bulls### this dealer has the worst service dept i have ever seen. when i asked him what i was supposed to do about a car in the mean time he said "not my problem" AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
Not sure how many miles you had on your truck, but the trans on my 05 F250 CC 4X4 Diesel blew up at 1877 miles towing around 9000 lbs. I have read about others with the exact same problem, lowest milage was around 550. My truck was in the shop for about 8-9 business days, and I got a brand new transmission. Only problem now is they scratch the hell out of the lower driver side door and tried to cover it up with touch up paint and buffed it out. Dealership denies it, but I know it was them. Decided its not worth the hassel to involve an attorney and that its better to leave it with the factory pain then to have the whole door repainted. I did fill out a lot of detail in the ford customer survey. So make sure you look over the entire truck before leaving with it, mine was stuck in drive and had to be pushed to move it.
I took my 05 350 cc lwb psd, 2700 miles, in yesterday. Luckily, I have a friend who is a service manager at a local dealership. They got it right in and looked at it. They found that injector 2 wasn't firing. When they went in to replace the injector, they found the rocker arm had shattered and the ball bearings it rests on were nowhere to be found. He was waiting on the compression test today and has been talking with Ford. He reccomended to them that they replace the motor, we'll see what Ford says. I'm going to demand they replace the motor just so I don't have to keep going back to the dealer so they can replace it piece by piece. 40+ thousand dollars and this is the quality you get. I haven't even begun breaking in this motor. Luckily, this service department is great. I took my truck in and 20 minutes later I was driving away in an 05 Mustang loner car. Better than a Taurus, but still not my truck. We'll see what happens tomorrow.
