Operatin' Systems for your P.C.
#18
I have been a linux fan for years. Linux is a wonderful operating system. I would suggest anyone with an older pc who wants to experiment try it out. I have ran it on everything from old 486's to the P4's and Athlons. I reccomend buying a book to help you learn. I would also reccomend going with Redhat Linux or using another one called Lindows. Most people do not know it but Mac OS-X is based off of linux. The opensource community is huge and everyone should atleast take a look.

There is a product out there called KNOPPIX. It can be downloaded to a CD, and then you can boot to it from your PC. It allows you to run LINUX without screwing up anything. I have an older PC I bought for $25 (had a 1.2g hard drive but a slower processor). I used an AB switch to go back and forth on the monitor, and I run Linux on the old PC. Works great, and it will open any word or excel document. Never have seen the blue screen while playing with this. All the servers use Linux Apache OS and a lot of govt agencies are using Linux cause you can buy one disc and use on as many computers as you got.
